İrem Altuğ (born 15 September 1980) is a Turkish actress.

Early Life

Irem Altug began her journey in show business at the tender age of 7 when she was recognized as the best commercial face in a national talent contest. This early recognition led her to a prolific career as a child actor, during which she appeared in over 40 commercials and participated in various theater projects. Her first professional appearance on the silver screen came in 1989 with the film Karilar Kogusu, directed by Halit Refig.

Career

To further hone her craft, Altug pursued drama studies at Mimar Sinan University of Conservatory. In 2000, she expanded her horizons by moving to the United States, where she continued her education in the Theater Art Department of San Francisco State University. During her time in California, she embraced opportunities in independent films, further diversifying her acting portfolio. Upon returning to Turkey, Altug gained widespread recognition for her roles in two crime investigation TV series, Seytan Ayrintida Gizlidi and Kayip Araniyor, as well as in two drama TV shows, Ihlamurlar Altinda and Vazgec Gonlum. Her second silver screen appearance came in 2006 with Semir Aslanyurek’s period film Eve Giden Yol 1914. Following this, she starred in the comedy film Kirpi and the German-Turkish co-production TV film Murder in Bosphorus, directed by Michael Kreindl. In 2009, Altug starred in the drama Melekler ve Kumarbazlar, and her most recent feature film was Nar, written and directed by Umit Unal, which was slated for release in 2011. Beyond her acting career, Irem Altug has explored her talents in writing, penning short stories and scripts. She wrote and co-produced the short film Love is Blind with director Ertuğ Tüfekçioğlu. This short film was featured in the Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner and won “Best Short Film” in the world cinema category at the Indianapolis Film Festival.
